lefkas holidays
lefkas holidaysLefkas, the 'white island' takes its name from the dramatic white cliffs of the west coast and is the 4th largest island of the Ionian chain. Separated from the mainland by a canal excavated by the Corinthians, the connection has been re-established with an efficient swing bridge that allows Lefkas to continue enjoying an island atmosphere whilst still providing easy access to some of the most beautiful parts of the mainland. This astonishingly picturesque islands' charms include unspoilt villages, ancient olive groves, pine clad hills and a jigsaw coastline of sand and pebble beaches.

The waters of the eastern coast are sheltered whilst the west coast is more rugged. The northern coast is tame becoming progressively wilder as you head south. The further south you go the less accessible the beaches become but those who make the effort to tackle the narrow roads and steep climbs are rewarded with staggering views of sheltered harbours and beaches nestling below pine carpeted hills. The west coasts' exposed beaches are a magnet for the more adventurous, the sight of hundreds of windsurfers taking advantage of the islands geography and windy afternoons is quite spectacular.

Recognised as one of the windsurfing capitals of Europe, Vassiliki hosts the World Windsurfing Championships. Lefkas is also the main yachting destination of the Ionian and the assembly point for one of the biggest yachting events in the Mediterranean, the annual regatta. With a rich cultural history, host to annual festivals of art, literature and folk dancing and a terrain and coastline suitable for mountain biking, hiking, sailing and windsurfing, Lefkas if the perfect choice for the energetic, the cultural and the sun worshipper alike.
